Our goodbye to Steve

Steve Bien-Aime's last day/night with The News Journal is today.

Please leave a comment in the comment section. Remember, Steve may want to show this to his parents so please self edit ..... Wait a minute, self editing doesn't happen at a newspaper.

Anyway, thanks in advance for taking time out of your day to do this.

P.S. If you don't have a blogger account, click on other and type in your name or use anonymous and type your name after your comment.

Thanks for everything you've done.

Advice for Steve: stay away from girls like the one in the video. Sure, it might seem like a good idea at the time (especially if alcohol is involved), but trust me...

Wait! I'm confused. You're leaving? If you're gone, who is Pankaj going to get to work 75 hours a week for no extra pay?
Good luck Steve.

Steve, Be your sherry-swilling, hat-wearing self and Baltimore will love you like we do. Best, Suzanne

Steve,
You deserve a Crabby. I'll miss you. Please stay in touch. I'll meet you for a drink at Bar Bleu this fall, just bring your cowboy hat. Alison

Who is going to bug me about pictures of the baby at work now?
Working nights and weekends will never be the same...

So, you think leaving here will remedy the situation? I say: Ha! I say it again: Ha! The posthypnotic command has been cemented. You will be under my control at all times. Does the name Raymond Shaw mean nothing to you? I thought not!

Steve,
You've been a real pleasure to work with, and we've been lucky to have you. You brightened the room. And I'll miss you.
All the best,
Marisa

Dude -- Whenever I worked a Saturday night cops shift, you always invited me to get something to eat on the copy desk, even when I forgot to bring something to share. That was much appreciated. You added some real spunk to the newsroom at night, especially with the many hats. Good luck in Baltimore; you'll do great. -- Chalmers

Jeff: Nice job. Who knew the night desk could be funny?

Steve: I'm going to miss making fun of your gigantic cowboy hat.

P.S. When is it going to be Carl Hott's last day?

Jeffrey said...

Shhhhhh. If word were to get out that people on the copydesk can be funny, we'd be inundated with wannabe copy editors and designers.

Steve: Brad was so devastated by your departure that he left the state ... and went to Florida. OK, maybe is playing golf, and meeting Paula Creamer, and working for Jason and Suzanne, and going to Sonic. But if he were here, he would join me in saying, "What took you so long?"

Actually, you know we're both going to miss you and your cowboys hats, your blind devotion to Penn State, your love of the WNBA, your swilling of sherry and your totally can-do, what-do-you-need-done-next approach to journalism, and your unending well of enthusiasm and joy.

You are a great guy. We'll meet you in Baltimore and take in an Orioles game!

Good luck. (Uncle Brad says you'll need it.)

P.S. Jeffrey scares me in that video. Reminds me of the "The Blair Witch Project." I have to go scream now!

Good luck to you at your new place. I'm sure the folks at the Sun will find you as annoying (and I mean that in a good way) as we did here. Rock on. And we will always have this:

I suppose sometime, whenever all the sherry is wasted -- late tonight, maybe? -- I suppose 12 moving vans on loan from Robert Irsay & Sons will pull up at Colony North. And then, under cover of the night, ye'll be off to Bawlmer. A Marylander then. South of the M-D, laddie. Ye may meet Remorse there and Lament just behind him. But d'nae worry. The I95 runs up and down. The Amtrak runs here and there. Ye could still make a parade! We shall miss yer odd humor, yer twinkled eye, yer ear for Pipes! All the best to you, sir. Yer fan, BMiller.

Best wishes as you venture onward in Bmore. Yes, we'll miss the cowboy hats ... but less not forget his medical scrubs ... does anyone have pics of that? Steve, I'll never understand you on that one.

And just in case the YouTube video is too dark, here's much clearer evidence - http://www.delawareonline.com/blogs/uploaded_images/steveDance_vv-712659.jpg

Long live viral video!

Dear Steve:

You said you would work here forever. I'm glad you lied.

Forget the sherry in Balto, dude. Stick with National Bo.

Dear Steve,
The News Journal is the less for your departure.
I will miss not only your personality in the newsroom (I mean Local Information Center) and, at home, awaking to your near-insanely cheerful late-night phone calls "just to double-check one thing...."
Not to mention your generosity and help with the Limen House Gift Drive.
And the hats.

Steve,
Good luck! Stay intouch. You will be missed! Please don't tell the new people you work with that you drink sherry. Send us pictures of any new hats!

Steve-

I miss you already. I remember one time (you were in one of your moods), I left work early to tend to my daughter (she's ok now), and you mentioned something about me being a "slacker" for leaving. Of course you were being funny, but it got to me in a good way. You were right, I needed to change my attitude. I was working hard, but there's always room for growth, especially in the heart. You changed my heart and I am forever grateful.

Also, did you know that there is a lot of drug trafficking in Baltimore? I've never been, but I heard about it from the show The Wire. It's on HBO (cable. Siggghhhh!).

Your friend,

Massimo
